OutsideView Enterprise
Presented by BrightStrand (formerly Sionet International)
OutsideView Enterprise edition combines the powerful, easy to use features of the Desktop product with a new set of indispensable tools for system administrators, IT professionals, and technical support staff. The Enterprise edition allows OutsideView to run locally on each workstation, providing speed and flexibility, at the same time the product is centrally administered.
There is no server-dependency. If the end-user workstation cannot find the central administration point, it will report this fact but continue to operate for 7 days, or more if specified.
There is a server 'component' that consists of three network-shared folders. No code executes on the server. The shared folders are merely a passive reference source for:
- Application media
- One or more "Profiles" consisting of an installation script, user permission file, and (optional) configuration files.
- One or more license pools containing either semi-static or true concurrent licenses.
OutsideView Enterprise Benefits
Silent install and updates
Now there is no reason to install PC-to-host connectivity software on every workstation one at a time. OutsideView Enterprise automatically creates "Installation Shortcuts" that install OutsideView at each workstation fully configured and ready to run. Distributing updates is easier and no shortcuts are required. By simply updating a network share, all users will be automatically updated to the current software version.
Central license management
OutsideView Enterprise's license server provides decreased license administration and full licensing compliance. By simply enrolling a provided file to your license server, you can create a pool of licenses available to OutsideView clients.
The license for OutsideView Enterprise can be purchased in different forms.
Standard, per-seat licenses - this is the 'classic' form of licensing. A license gets assigned to a given client workstation on a persistent basis and can only be retrieved back into the license pool via a simple, but manual, License View process. These types of licenses are best and the most cost effective for frequent users.
Concurrent licenses - are assigned to a client workstation only while OutsideView is actively running on that station. For infrequent users, this form of licensing, while more expensive per-license, permits overall cost savings because less licenses are needed.
A customer can implement a mix of per-seat and concurrent licensing
Profile Management and User Permissions
OutsideView allows you to create and maintain "profiles" for different user groups.
Profiles define the installation and user configurations for each group of users. All users within a profile automatically receive only those connectivity tools they need, with standardized application appearances.
User profiles can be defined to include the following:
- Limit number of copies of OutsideView 32 running on a workstation
- Limit total number of emulation sessions running in a given copy of OutsideView
- Limit number of sessions of each particular type running in a given copy of OutsideView
- Specify which workspace is invoked upon OutsideView startup
- Grant or deny permission to
- To create and/or modify workspaces
- To create and/or modify session files
- To create and/or modify macro files
